AHUREA (CULTURE)
Whakanuia te reo me ngā tikanga - kia ora! Let us all celebrate and uplift language and culture together, walking side by side as one inclusive, respectful, and united community.
We celebrate the richness of our diverse community, which includes Māori, Pasifika, Former Refugee, and Asian students. We take extreme pride in the inclusive and welcoming environment we foster, an environment where every culture is not only valued and respected but actively embraced and honoured. The sincere and genuine relationships we have built with Marlborough Boys’ College and Marlborough Girls’ College, particularly with Pasifika students and staff, reflect our deep commitment to cultural connectedness and mutual respect.
Te reo Māori and Māori tikanga are woven into the fabric of our everyday school life. From classroom learning to shared school experiences, these practices help ground our students in the unique identity of Aotearoa. Our whole school participates enthusiastically in weekly kapa haka practices that celebrate the strength and beauty of Māori culture and language. These moments are not just performances, they are powerful expressions of pride, unity, and heritage.
Pasifika culture also holds a special place in our community. Weekly Pasifika song and dance sessions provide our students with opportunities to express their identities with confidence and joy. We actively engage in vibrant cultural events, storytelling, shared meals, and learning opportunities that reflect the richness of our Pasifika nations. These experiences help foster a deep sense of belonging and cultural affirmation for our Pasifika students.
We are continually expanding our commitment to inclusivity by celebrating the voices, languages, and traditions of our Asian communities and welcoming students from former refugee backgrounds with empathy, support, and respect. We believe that cultural diversity enriches our collective learning and prepares our students to thrive in a connected global society.
Our diverse culture is what makes Blenheim School unique and special.
HĀKINAKINA (SPORT)
At Blenheim School, student well-being (hauora) is a strong focus and central to our school culture. We proudly offer a range of sporting opportunities that support all aspects of hauora:
-
Taha Tinana - Physical well-being
-
Taha Wairua - Spiritual well-being
-
Taha Hinengaro - Mental and emotional well-being
-
Taha Whānau - Social well-being
Sport at Blenheim School goes beyond fitness, it helps build confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of belonging. We believe it is important for all students, from New Entrant to Year 6, to have the opportunity to engage in sport both in and out of school, all year round. Whether through regular PE sessions, lunchtime games, or organised competitions, we ensure every child has the chance to be active, included, and involved.
We offer a variety of competitive sports, including basketball, netball, football, volleyball, and touch rugby. These activities allow students to challenge themselves, discover their strengths, and experience success outside the classroom. Termly, as a whole school, we embrace whole school competition which can lead to competition with our cluster schools - Cross Country, Swimming Sports, Athletics, and Gymnastics.
Sport also creates meaningful connections. Our staff engage with students in different environments, building stronger relationships. It also strengthens our school community, with parents and whānau regularly involved as coaches, managers, and enthusiastic supporters on the sidelines.
In addition to our regular programme, a wide range of sports codes visit our school throughout the year to run skill sessions. These opportunities help students develop new skills, explore different sports, and foster a lifelong love of being active.
Through sport, we actively promote the well-being of our students and their whānau, creating a vibrant, inclusive, and connected school community.
